Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What Does Your Company Do?

A. We are a student transportation company. We drive students who have special needs to and from school. We are hiring drivers who have the patience and nurturing qualities to drive children with special needs, and who want to work part time (2-4 hours per day).

Q. Do I Need A Special Vehicle to Transport Them?

A. Just a sedan, minivan or SUV. It should not be more than ten years old. No special equipment is needed. Your vehicle must remain clean and be reliable. Of course, all of the seatbelts must work properly. Drivers should expect their vehicle to be inspected prior to the start of school.

Q. Do I Need To Live in Carlsbad?

A. No; however, the “pay meter” does not begin until the first child is picked up, so it is not very economical if the driver does not live nearby. You may choose which of those three cities you would like to transport students in.

Q. How Much Will I Be Driving?

A. Each pick up or drop off is called a “run.” Up to three children may be picked up or dropped off as part of ONE run. Each run takes between 10 and 50 minutes, and ranges between 5-13miles. The driving takes place when the children begin their school day, and when they are released from school. Most drivers will drive 2-5 runs per day.

Q. When Does The Driving Begin?

A. The driving begins when school starts and students are identified as needing district provided transportation. The driving schedule mirrors that of the school district: if there’s no school, then no driving is required.

Q. Do I Need Any Special Training?
A. Yes. An online tutorial about transporting children with special needs must be viewed and a series of questions answered correctly.

Q. What About Background Checks?

A. Each driver must pass a background check which includes providing fingerprints. Drivers must also provide a copy of their California driver’s license and vehicle registration, and drivers must submit to random drug and alcohol testing. Finally, each driver must provide evidence that he or she has been tested for Tuberculosis.

Q. How Much Auto Insurance Do I Need to Drive For Let’s Ride! LLC?

A. Your current liability policy is fine, which you are required to continue. We will provide additional insurance up to $1,000,000 “while under dispatch” which will cover third party liability and property damage to your vehicle.

Q. Will I Be An Employee of Let’s Ride! LLC, Or Will I Be an Independent Contractor?

A. All drivers for Let’s Ride! LLC will be employees and should expect their paychecks to reflect all required withholdings. Also, workers compensation insurance will be provided.

Q. How Will I Be Compensated?

A. Each driver driving their own vehicle will be paid approximately $27 (depending on the distance of the route) for each run which includes a non-taxable mileage reimbursement. We are paid a flat rate for each one way trip; regardless of the number of students that are on that route. Payday will be every week via direct deposit. Please note that this is part time work and no other employment benefits are available.

Q. How Will I Know Which “Runs” I Will Drive?

A. Each driver is required to have a smartphone and download the EverDriven application. EverDriven works directly with the school district and communicates to drivers for Let’s Ride! LLC its transportation needs on a daily basis. The goal is to have each driver establish a route that they can repeat on a daily basis. By driving the same route every day, the driver can form a relationship with the children, and trust and confidence from the parents.

Q. Will I Have Any Input To My Driving Schedule?

A. Drivers are only paid for the runs they drive, so it is imperative that they make themselves available to drive whenever possible, especially in the mornings and afternoons. Ultimately, the driver may accept or reject offered runs, but it is in the drivers’ best interest to be flexible so as to accept any and all offered runs.

Q. When Will I Know Which Runs I Will Be Offered To Drive?

A. It is anticipated that during the week before school starts each driver will be offered a number of runs which hopefully will become that driver’s normal, daily route. Please note that there are always changes to routes in the first couple of weeks of school, and throughout the school year. Drivers are encouraged to be flexible and accept changes with a smile.

Q. What If I’m Sick Or Need To Take A Day Off?

A. Naturally, it is important that drivers for Let’s Ride! LLC be committed to their routes and communicate effectively when they are unable to drive. Other drivers can fill in for each other when needed.
